Abstract/Description

Evidence based conservation policy requires robust information on status and trends of biodiversity, its pressures and threats, and the applied conservation measures. This session deals with representative nationwide data sets, assessments, monitoring, reporting and evaluations for status and trends of biodiversity in Austria and delivers an outlook for a concept for a national biodiversity monitoring programme for the next decade.

The different contributions will focus on topics such as (i) status and trends of biodiversity according to the 43 Austrian Headline Biodiversity indicators; (ii) results of monitoring and reporting under the EU-Habitats Directive; (iii) trends in abundance of common breedings birds in Austria; (iv) the European Pollinator Monitoring Scheme (EUPoMS) under the EU Restoration law and its implementation in Austria; (v) trends in red list classifications in Austria 1980-2026 and the Red List Dashboard OASIS;  (vi) status and trends of invasive alien species in Austria; (vii) Evaluation of the Austrian Agro-Environment Scheme ÖPUL with based on the national biodiversity monitoring programme ÖBM-Kulturlandschaft; (viii) status and trends of protected areas in Austria; (xi) peatbog inventory and restoration in Austria; (x) Mainstreaming biodiversity: update on processes in Austria; (xi) towards a coordinated biodiversity monitornig programme in Austria.
